Milton Greene

From 1953-1957, Milton Greene took some of the most alluring and captivating images ever taken of Marilyn Monroe. They became partners, establishing Marilyn’s own production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions which produced two films, Bus Stop and A Prince and a Showgirl.

The use of a bustier and fishnet stockings first used in the Black Sitting, sparked the design of the costume worn by Marilyn’s character, Cherie in Bus Stop. The Black Sitting along with other series such as the Ballerina Sitting remains some of the most famous photographs ever taken of Marilyn Monroe.

Milton’s work in the fifties and sixties appeared in major national publications including Life, Look, Harper's Bazaar, Town & Country and Vogue. Milton’s photographs are credited to bringing fashion photography into the realm of fine art.

Milton Greene’s subjects included Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, Sammy Davis Jr., Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Sophia Loren, Groucho Marx, Audrey Hepburn, Andy Warhol and Judy Garland.
